Prices for flour, oils in Tajikistan slightly decline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Prices for basic commodities such as wheat flour, vegetable and cottonseed oils in Tajikistan from May 1 through 7 have decreased by 1 percent compared to the preceding week, Trend reports, citing the World Food Programme (WFP) report for Tajikistan.

According to the report, the average prices for the first grade wheat flour in Tajikistan’s retail markets made up 5.2 somoni ($0.4) for a kg as of May 1, which is a decrease of 1 percent compared to previous report of April 24. The highest price for wheat, 6.5 somoni ($0.5), was registered in Ishkoshim city and the lowest in Istaravshan city – 4.5 somoni ($0.4).

During the specified week, the average price for vegetable oil in Tajikistan declined by 1 percent, amounting to 19.3 somoni ($1.77) per a liter. The highest price was registered in Murgob city – 30.7 somoni ($2.81) and the lowest in Istaravshan city – 17 somoni ($1.56).

Meanwhile, the average price for a liter of cotton oil in Tajikistan totaled 18 somoni ($1.65), which is 1 percent less than in the previous week. Mugob city had the highest prices for this type of oil – 28.5 somoni ($2.61) for a liter, and Istaravshan city had the lowest prices – 15.6 somoni ($1.43).

WFP Tajikistan, in partnership with the Neksigol Mushovir advisory organization, has been monitoring commodity prices in markets across the country.

The price data is collected through the network of field enumerators. For each commodity, multiple traders are interviewed, and the average prices are recorded.
