Iran's welcome of talks not due to West sanctions: MP

An Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi criticized on Saturday the US Secretary of State's remarks that Iran returned to table of talks due to problems caused by sanctions against the country, ISNA reported.

"We have always hailed talks, but the upcoming negotiation between Iran and the P5+1 does not take place due to the West's illegal actions [imposition of resolutions] against Iran," the Chairman of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told ISNA.

"The US international illegal political and psychological measures against Iran which come with the aim of suspension of the country's peaceful nuclear program have failed," he said adding, "because the US was seeking to prevent Iran from nuclear capability, whereas Iran's efforts brought fruitful results despite all of the steps and the US came nowhere despite sanctions."

The US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has recently claimed that Iran's decision to return to the table of talks is due to problems caused by sanctions.

Iran is also under four sets of UN sanctions over its refusal to suspend civilian uranium enrichment.

Tehran denies Western claim that its nuclear program is aimed at making a bomb, saying it is strictly for peaceful needs.
