The Iranian Space Agency (ISA) will launch a satellite designed and built by one of Iran's leading universities.
The Sharif University of Technology's microsatellite will be tasked with taking pictures of the Earth, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.
The satellite's high imaging accuracy and resolution are reasons why it has been put on the ISA's launch list, said Hamid Fazeli, the space agency's head.
The microsatellite will be carried into space by the Safir B-1 rocket this year, said Mr. Fazeli.
Work to design and build the satellite began in 2008.
