In the first six months of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Imam Khomeini Port in Iran’s Khuzestan province imported 341,000 tons of raw sugar, Khodarahm Amirizadeh, director general of the grain and trade services company in Khuzestan, told reporters, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The sugar in these volumes was imported from India and Brazil by eight ships, he said.

Amirizadeh added that 73,000 tons of sugar were shipped to the Khuzestan sugar factories and the rest to other processing plants.

“Given that Iran needs 2.2 million tons of sugar, Khuzestan province has been able to meet half of the country’s needs by producing more than one million tons of sugar,” he said.
