Georgia Should Learn to Overcome Struggle against Russia - Georgian Political Scientist

Georgia, Tbilisi / Тrend corr N. Kirtskhalia / Until Russia establishes relationships with the West it will still exert pressure upon Georgia. " Russia will put pressure on Georgia until elections are held in the US and Russia," Georgian political scientist, the spokesman for Georgian ex-President Shevarnadze, Ramaz Sakvarelidze, said.

Commenting on yesterday's shooting in Georgian villages by Ossetian separatists, Sakvarelidze said the incident was directly connected with the visit of Russian Ambassador, Yuri Popov, to Georgia.

According to the politician, the main point for Georgia is to learn to overcome its struggle against Russia's provocations and pressures and to minimize the damage. "Georgians are passionate. Only we can reply to non-diplomatic statements by a Russian diplomat in the same way, while almost a half of Georgia's capital is in Russia's hands," he said.

The political scientist considers the shooting in the conflict area to be a next attempt to aggravate the situation. He compared the tense relationships between Georgia and Russia with a wreath where flowers are the following - tactlessness of the Russian Ambassador to Georgia, the problems in foreign relations such as the relationships between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili, periodical shootings in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict area, military tensions in Abkhazia, etc.

"It is annoying that we have become used to living with conflict and tension and probably will not have a dream of peace and calm for a long time," he said.
