Georgia, Tbilisi, 21 April / corr. Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ Nino Burjanadze, the chairman of Georgian parliament has refused to take part in parliament elections as a candidate from ruling Unified National Movement, she briefed the media on 21 April.

She said that she has decided not to run for parliament elections to be held on 21 May. Burjanadze was number one in the list of Unified National Movement.

"It is usual political process and I decided to do it as I could not co-opt the persons to the list of ruling party whom I consider to be necessary for the party. We need successful reforms and progress in the country where these people can play a decisive role, but they did not agree with me which compelled me to make such a decision," she said.

Burjanadze said that she will hold the post of parliament chairman until new chairman is elected and will do her best for fair elections.
