Arab World Materials 14 January 2010 14:03 (UTC +04:00)

An Iraqi court Thursday sentenced 11 men to death over August's truck bombings in Baghdad that left more than 100 killed, al-Arabiya channel reported.

The coordinated string of attacks in central Baghdad on August 19 destroyed much of the finance and foreign affairs ministries and left 1,200 injured, DPA reported.

The government blamed the attacks on al-Qaeda and loyalists to Saddam Hussein's Baath party in Syria.

The attacks led to a diplomatic conflict between Iraq and Syria, with the two government's recalling their respective ambassadors after Damascus refused to hand over two suspects.
