The new US special envoy for North Korea will travel to Asia next week for talks on moving forward in negotiations aimed at ending Pyongyang's nuclear programme, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday, according to dpa.

Stephen Bosworth will travel to Japan, South Korea and China as well as Russia in an effort to move forward in the six-nation talks, Clinton said.

The negotiations stalled last summer over disagreement on how to implement an accord signed by all six countries, which includes North Korea abandoning its nuclear activities in return for economic aid and normalized diplomatic relations.

Clinton named Bosworth as her special envoy during a trip to the region last week. He is a former ambassador to South Korea and currently serves as dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

Bosworth will help oversee the nuclear negotiations with North Korea as well as concerns about proliferation and human rights.
