Turkish opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Çanakkale deputy Mustafa Kemal Cengiz was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Wednesday, Today's Zaman reported. A car driven by Cengiz drove off the shoulder while heading from Çanakkale to Ankara.
Although Cengiz sustained life-threatening injuries, a person riding with him only required outpatient care. Cengiz was taken to Ankara's Atatürk Teaching and Research Hospital.
The hospital's chief physician, Murat Bozkurt, said the deputy had suffered from internal bleeding and a broken arm and spine. The doctor said Cengiz was conscious but that his condition remains serious.
