Iran's domestic Bavar-373 missile defense system is more advanced than Russian S-300, IRNA quoted Executive Deputy Head of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defence Base Gen.Shahrokh Shahram on Saturday as saying.

"Designing of Bavar-373 defense system is completed and we have achieved good result," he said.

Iranian Mehr News Agency reported today quoting Planning and Programming Deputy Head of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defence Base that Bavar-373 system is able to attack at long-range, mid-range and short-range targets.

Islamic Revolution Guard Corps' (IRGC) Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Sept. 20 that Iran started producing air defense system Bavar-373 instead of the Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.

Esmaili said a decision to produce domestically Barvar-373 systems was made after Russia's refusal to sell S-300 systems to Iran.

Early September, Iran has appealed to the International Court of Arbitration over Russia's refusal to implement a contract for the supply of S-300 systems to Iran.

On Sept. 22, 2010, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree banning the transfer of S-300 missiles, armored vehicles, combat aircrafts, helicopters and ships to Iran.
This is envisaged by a presidential decree on measures to implement UN Security Council resolution 1929, dated June 9, 2010. The contract to supply Iran with five battalions of S-300 PMU-1 was signed in late 2007. The deal amounted to $800 million.

On June 20, 2011, Head of Rosoboronexport Anatoly Isaikin allowed the possibility of resuming negotiations with Iran on the S-300 after lifting UN sanctions.

The S-300, a series of Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems, was developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles. Subsequent variations were developed to intercept ballistic missiles
