Gunmen stormed jewelry stores in southern Baghdad on Tuesday, killing 14 people, an Interior Ministry source said.

Unidentified gunmen stormed 11 jewelry stores at about midday at a commercial area in Doura district, killing 14 workers and snatched undetermined amounts of jewels, the source told  Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attackers planted magnetic bombs in several nearby civilian cars before they fled the scene, the source said.

Iraqi security forces cordoned off the area while police experts started to defuse the bombs, the source added.

Waves of violence and sporadic attacks continue in the Iraqi cities more than two months after the country held its landmark parliamentary election which is widely expected to shape the political landscape of the war-torn country.
