BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. Azerbaijan's Prime Minister Ali Asadov took part in a meeting between members of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, during his working visit to Dushanbe, Trend reports via the Cabinet of Ministers.

During his speech, Asadov addressed various issues on the agenda, including economic, legal, and humanitarian matters, and emphasized the importance of budget and staffing concerns within the CIS framework.

He particularly highlighted the significance of humanitarian cooperation, calling volunteerism and strengthening international collaboration in this area key to mutual development.

"As you know, the CIS Volunteer Forum was successfully held in Baku last December. Young people from CIS member states actively participated, and numerous panel sessions and round tables took place," Asadov noted.

The discussion also focused on major cultural and sports events to be held within the CIS in 2025. Notably, the 3rd CIS Sports Games will take place in Ganja and other cities in Azerbaijan, from September 28 to October 8, with 23 sports disciplines involved.

"The official website of the games is now live, where you can find detailed information on the event's preparation, schedule, and sports venues," he added.

Asadov also shared updates regarding the declaration of Lachin as the "Cultural Capital of the CIS for 2025", noting that a detailed action plan for various cultural and entertainment events, including conferences, concerts, exhibitions, and film festivals, has been approved.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, the Prime Minister praised Azerbaijan's significant contributions both on the battlefield and on the home front. He also highlighted Azerbaijan's growing economic and trade relations within the CIS, with a positive dynamic in trade turnover.

"In 2024, the trade turnover grew by 7 percent, and in the first four months of the current year, it has increased by 43 percent," Asadov reported.

The Prime Minister also discussed Azerbaijan's efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure, particularly the digitization of customs and transit operations. Azerbaijan plays a key role in the development of the East-West and North-South transport corridors, cementing its position as an important logistics hub in Eurasia.

In terms of renewable energy, Asadov provided details on large-scale solar and wind power projects.

"Contracts signed for solar and wind power plants will provide an additional 6 gigawatts of energy by 2030. Furthermore, hydroelectric power stations will be constructed in the East Zangezur and Karabakh regions, enhancing the hydro-energy potential through domestic investments. Thanks to the efforts made, the potential for energy production from renewable sources is set to double over the next five years," he added.

Following the meeting, Asadov expressed hope for continued close cooperation among CIS member states at the intergovernmental level, emphasizing that this would positively impact bilateral and multilateral relations.

Moreover, several documents were signed by the heads of government of the CIS member states.
