Mugam, alongside Azeri people, belongs to the whole mankind, trend reports quoting Yo-Yo Ma, world-famous violoncellist from the US, speaking May 17 at news conference in Baku.
В"Despite of nation and culture, each person can freely perceive mugam music, which brings him to another worldВ",- the musician said. Alongside, Mr Ma stated the actions to be performed under Silk Way project in early June in Chicago, featuring Azeri music as well.
Mr Ma arrived in Baku as a head of Silk Way ensemble, supported by US department of State and US Embassy to Azerbaijan.
Silk Way ensemble was organized by Mr Ma in 1988, it consists of over 50 musicians from different countries worldwide. Several concerts of classic music have been organized in Baku with participation of famous Azeri musicians, including Alim Gasimov, famous mugam singer.
Jason Highland, US temporary charge d-affairs to Azerbaijan, called Mr Ma ambassador of culture, who bridges the gaps among different cultures. В"I hope this visit will strengthen cooperation between US and Azeri nationsВ", - Highland concluded.
