Big contract agreed for technology solutions of Azerbaijani Shahdag complex

Royal Imtech N.V. (IM-AE, technical services provider in Europe) announces that its Turkish subsidiary AE Arma-Elektropanç has obtained an order for all the technical solutions in the new Shahdag Hotels construction project in the Gusar Region, some 250 kilometres north of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The project is the centrepiece of the largest combined winter and summer tourist resort in the world. For Imtech this order represents a total contract value of $24.5 million, Royal Imtech said today.

According to an Azerbaijani spokesperson, Imtech (AE Arma-Elektropanç) is responsible for all the technical solutions in both hotels and adjoining premises, featuring all energy and electrical and mechanical HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) solutions, as well as complete sanitary packages and water solutions.

To boost quality tourism in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism decided to realise the largest combined winter and summer resort in the world with a total surface area of more than 50,000 m² in the northern Gusar region of Azerbaijan.

The developer of the project is PASHA Construction LLC and the architect ReardonSmith.
Shahdag is the pearl of the Azerbaijani tourism industry. It will be the first complex in Europe and enjoy an all year round functionality thanks to artificial snow coverage.

After commissioning the Shahdag tourist complex, another kind of tourism namely skiing and mountain hiking will be developed in the country.

A revolving restaurant will be built which can be reached on Shahdag Mountain at 2500 metres. The project was launched in 2006. The complex construction began in September 2009. The tourist complex is located 32 kilometres from the regional centre Gusar. Its total area is 2058 hectares. The construction site is located in Shahdag state park.

Around four billion euros will be invested in the Shahdag complex. First guests should be arriving in December 2012. Sports facilities are being built near the complex including bobsleigh and ski trails, ice skating and a hockey pitch.
