KazMunayGas takes measures to battle climate change, solve environmental issues

Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas National Company (KMG) joined Caspian Environmental Protection Initiative (CEPI), Trend reports with reference to the KMG's statement.

The corresponding memorandum was signed with Azerbaijani SOCAR, BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Limited, Equinor Apsheron AS и TOTAL E&P Absheron B.V. companies.

The memorandum oversees establishment of the CEPI, the main goal of which are creation of the first platform for environmental protection and joint research of international oil companies operating in the region.

The activities of the participating companies will be aimed at active joint efforts in order to resolve the problem of climate change, which poses a threat to the environmental sustainability of the Caspian region, and to prevent emissions of greenhouse gases and harmful substances into the environment.

Furthermore, cooperation within the CEPI includes research and support for best practices, standards and technologies in the field of environmental protection, development and implementation of joint preventive measures to combat climate change, organization of awareness-raising and advocacy campaigns, involvement of stakeholders in environmental issues, etc.

National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) is the Kazakhstan operator for exploration, production, refining and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state interests in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan.
