BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Azerbaijan has intensified efforts to improve the environmental conditions of polluted areas within the country, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Umayra Taghiyeva said during the 12th Caspian Energy Forum in Baku, Trend reports.

According to Taghiyeva, the state places great importance on addressing environmental issues and is actively working in this direction.

"Today, Azerbaijan is one of the key participants in the 'green' transition, which the world considers a top priority," she emphasized.

The Deputy Minister highlighted that the goal of achieving carbon neutrality has been set for the territories liberated from occupation.

Additionally, she noted the significant responsibility Azerbaijan holds this year in hosting the 29th session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"COP29 is the highest platform for addressing global climate change issues. We are preparing for this prestigious event. Under our presidency at COP29, there must be an agreement on climate financing in the global climate agenda, which has remained unresolved for many years. There are sufficient financial resources worldwide, but a crucial question is how to direct these financial flows to tackle climate issues on a global scale. It is vital that this funding addresses the most pressing challenges," Taghiyeva stressed.
