Kazakhstan plans to modernize Mangistau nuclear power plant in Aktau, Trend reports referring to Kazinform.

According to the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev, the comprehensive plan provides for the development of a strategy for the development of MAEK-Kazatomprom LLP for 2022-2030, which is aimed at modernizing Mangistau nuclear power plant.

Mirzagaliyev noted that modernization of the plant will reduce the cost of maintaining and maintaining equipment, increase the reliability and maneuverability of power plants and increase the life of the main equipment.

"Also, the strategy will be aimed at the safe removal of the BN-350 reactor facility and the processing of radioactive waste. Work is actively underway to provide external power infrastructure," the minister said.

"Thus, the construction of three substations is underway in Aktau, for the implementation of which 9.5 billion tenge ($22 million) is provided in 2021-2022. The implementation of these projects will provide electricity to residents of new microdistricts of the projected city center of Aktau and the settlements adjacent to the city," the head of the Ministry of Energy explained.
