The State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy of Azerbaijan plans to launch a project on creation of new generating capacities in renewable energy with a total capacity of 300 megawatts since 2015, the head of the state agency Akim Badalov told reporters Sept.23 within the framework of the regular business forum organized by Caspian European Club (CEIBC).

He added that the project will focus on the generation of solar, wind, geothermal waters, small rivers energy and biomasses.

At the moment, the construction of the station on the generation of wind energy in the Yeni Yashma, with a total capacity of 50 megawatts is also completed, he said.

"We plan to connect this first major station to the total distribution network of Azerenergy JSC after passing the examination of the state commission on acceptance into the commissioning in the coming days," Badalov said.

He noted that Azerbaijan is now completing the drafting of 7 solar power plants and it is planned to lay their foundation in late 2014 or early 2015.

.
Also, it is planned to build stations generating electricity from biomasses in Sheki and Siyazan regions of Azerbaijan, where waste from cattle and chickens will be used as the raw materials.
Currently, the share of alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan is less than 1 percent, and accounts for small hydro power plants. Today the European and other developed countries agreed on annual raising of the share of alternative energy up to 10-15 percent of total electricity production volume.

It is planned to build up to 100 objects for alternative energy for 5 years in Azerbaijan, according to preliminary research.
