Oil reserves of high quality were discovered on the Altintop field in the Turkish city of Adiyaman, the Zaman newspaper quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Monday.
It is planned to produce about 500 barrels of oil per day on this field in the first phase.
"This is a small volume, but they are of great importance for Turkey," Yildiz said.
The U.S. company Pemi discovered an oil field in the Turkish city of Batman, where it dealt with hydrocarbon exploration.
The company intends to increase oil production from this field up to 2,700 barrels per day.
Turkey is actively engaged in search of oil fields to reduce dependence on oil supplies from abroad. The recent prospecting operations in the Sinop area, on which great hopes were placed, yielded no results.
After Nicosia began developing the shelf near the shores of the island, Turkey began exploring for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone of Northern Cyprus along with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
