BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. It is essential that UNESCO sends its mission to the liberated lands in order to assess the levels of destruction and apply appropriate measures, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy Hedva Ser said in an interview with Trend.

“Unfortunately, it has been postponed, however, I believe that it will happen really soon,” she said.

Ser noted the efficient cooperation between UNESCO and Azerbaijan in various aspects.

“We have a long-time, successful collaboration with Azerbaijan. I also want to note major contribution of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva in this fruitful cooperation,” Ser added.

According to the ambassador, Azerbaijan has strengthened its representation on the global arena with the help of the Global Baku Forum.

“The message that President Ilham Aliyev delivered at the last forum about Azerbaijan’s role in peace building is another confirmation of the country’s strong will and desire for peace,” the ambassador said.

Speaking forward, the ambassador mentioned, the “Youth Art Camp” project carried out in Azerbaijan's Shusha city by Azerbaijani and Andorran National Commissions for UNESCO and Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, which is currently one of the most significant projects.

“For me this particular project has been particularly notable. We have invited 17 young artists from all over the world in Shusha in order to work together. Inspired by Karabakh, they are delivering message for peace and building international cultural bridges,” she said.

Another important project that the ambassador mentioned is the “Tree of Peace” sculpture, symbolizing tolerance between peoples and understanding between nations, which was erected in the Baku Boulevard back in 2015.

“We are proud of our ongoing joint projects, and we have many new in mind. For example, currently I am also supporting films about culture diversity, and this could be hugely promoted in Azerbaijan as well, considering the fact how many different nationalities live in Azerbaijan in peace,” she added.

Touching upon being a part of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, the ambassador noted the center’s unique work and role in initiating discussions of global issues through the Global Baku Forum.

“I feel like I am a part of a big family here, where important issues are being discussed, urgent messages are being passed on,” Ser concluded.
