The indicators of the gas sector of Turkmenistan have been growing since the beginning of 2021, Trend reports.

The main indicators of the sector's growth include the commissioning of a gas compressor station at the Malay gas field at the beginning of this year, as well as the growth of production, exports and international projects.

Production:

Thus, according to the latest official data, the enterprises of the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan exceeded the production plan from January through April 2021.

Thus, during the reporting period, the country exceeded the plan for the production of gasoline by nine percent, diesel fuel by 0.8 percent, polypropylene by 5.5 percent, lubricating oils by 0.1 percent, liquefied gas by 7.1 percent, natural and associated gas production by 14.6 percent.

In addition, some 154.2 million cubic meters of natural gas have been prepared and sent to oil wells operating by the gas lift method on Khazar gas compressor unit by the gas transportation department of Turkmenistan’s Turkmennebit State Concern since the beginning of the year till end of March.

International projects:

A Memorandum of Understanding between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on joint exploration, development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostlug field in the Caspian Sea was signed on January 21, 2021.

Progress was also noted in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. So, in April of this year, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have signed a Concept of Ensuring the Security of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

In general, The length of the Turkmen section of the TAPI pipeline, the construction of which was launched in December 2015, will be 205 kilometers (the main operations are carried out on the 120th kilometer). The pipeline’s design capacity is planned to be 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and the project’s cost - about $8 billion.

Export:

The plan for gas exports was exceeded by 19.3 percent, and the development of investments - by 9.1 percent from January through April 2021.

The country exported more than 2,000 billion cubic meters of gas to China, taking first place in supplies in January 2021. A total of 4.7 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to China in January 2021.

Russia's Gazprom may increase gas supplies from Turkmenistan to 5.5 billion cubic meters in 2020-2035. In general, it is planned to increase the import of Central Asian gas to Russia to 26.6 billion cubic meters in 2021.

In addition, the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investment in the Oil and Gas Sector of Turkmenistan, held on May 12-13 in Ashgabat, contributed to the development of the gas sector of Turkmenistan.

The forum was attended by international experts and key participants of the global gas market, representatives of international organizations and institutions, heads and experts of leading oil and gas companies.

According to Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Global Gas Outlook 2050, natural gas production in Turkmenistan will increase by 78 percent and reach the level of more than 141 billion cubic metres by 2050, at a annual growth rate of 1.9 percent.

The main enterprise of the gas industry of Turkmenistan can be considered Turkmengas State Concern, which carries out the exploration, production, preparation, transportation and processing of natural gas.
