BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. The volume of Kyrgyzstan’s brown coal (lignite) extraction amounted to 522,900 tons from January through February 2023, Trend reports via the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.

The figure increased by 15 percent over 455,000 tons of lignite in the same period of 2022.

According to the statistics, 288,700 tons were extracted in January 2023, and 234,200 tons in February 2023.

At the same time, Kyrgyzstan decreased extraction of bituminous coal from January through February 2023 by 57.5 percent year-on-year – from 86,100 tons to 36,600 tons.

In general, the share of mining accounted for 13.2 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s industrial production in the aforementioned period.

The value of Kyrgyzstan's mining production from January through February 2023 amounted to 7.2 billion soms ($82.4 million).

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan extracted 3.6 million tons of coal and lignite in 2022, which is an increase of over 3 million tons in 2021.

The largest share of coal and lignite last year was produced in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan. The production volume in the region amounted to 1.7 million tons in 2022, which is an increase of 1.3 times over 1.2 million in 2021.
