BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 1. The total value of currency in circulation in Kyrgyzstan reached 201.848 billion soms ($2.276 billion) as of April 1, 2024, Trend reports.

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan reported that of this amount, 8.653 billion soms ($97.595 million) were held in the vaults of commercial banks, while the remaining 193.194 billion soms ($2.178 billion) were outside the banking system.

In the first quarter of 2024, cash inflows into the vaults of commercial banks across the country totaled 1.185 trillion soms ($13.374 billion), which is a 15.2 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2023.

During the same period, cash withdrawals from the vaults of commercial banks amounted to 1.189 trillion soms ($13.419 billion), a 16.5 percent increase over the first quarter of 2023.

The cash return rate to the vaults of commercial banks for the first quarter of 2024 stood at 99.7 percent, indicating a 1.1 percent decrease compared to the first quarter of 2023.

As of the reported date, there were 23 commercial banks and 316 branches of commercial banks operating in the country.
