BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. More than 770,000 tons of guaranteed wheat have been purchased from local farmers in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran since April 8, the Director General of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation’s branch in Khuzestan Province Omid Jahan Nejadian said, Trend reports.
According to him, more than 500,000 tons of wheat purchased with a guarantee have been transported to warehouses following standards.
Jahan Nejadian added that more than 60,000 tons of wheat are currently purchased daily on average from farmers in Khuzestan province with a guarantee.
The official noted that 103 centers for the guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers operate in the Khuzestan region.
"In the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), 1.72 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Khuzestan province under guarantee," he said.
Meanwhile, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased under the guarantee of the State Trading Company for 175–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
To note, the State Trading Company of Iran purchased a total of 7.2 million tons of wheat last year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).
