Lack of investment in Iran's power industry would possibly lead to challenges in this sector, said Iranian Energy Ministry's Spokesman for Electricity Industry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, Trend reports via ILNA.

"Development of power plants and power distribution networks requires heavy investments, our model for building power plants is investments from the private sector," he said.

"The budget plan for new Iranian year (started March 21,2021) envisages the necessary resources for the needs of the power industry, including the networks and old power plants," Mashhadi said.

"If the resources aren't provided, and the government's debts aren't paid, there will be problems with future investments. Hopefully, it won't come to that," he said.

Mashhadi said the return of the US to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action would affect the development of Iran's power industry.

"It is expected that production capacity of power plants would reach 20,000 megawatt by installation of new power plants by the end of Iran's current government ruling term in June," he said.
