Pakistani army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani left here Saturday for the United States on a week-long visit, Xinhua reported.
This is Kayani's first formal visit to the United States since he replaced former President Pervez Musharraf as the army chief in 2007.
"During his visit, Kayani is scheduled to meet senior military and government officials," the official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said.
Kayani's visit came amid the Obama administration is reviewing the entire U.S. policy towards Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Kayani is expected to hold talks with the U.S. officials on the anti-terror war in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region.
