A container terminal of the Petlim port, which belongs to Turkey’s Petkim petrochemical complex, will start operating this week within the first phase of the port’s construction project, Petkim said in a message posted Dec. 5 on the website of the State Authority of Turkey to inform the public.

“The port’s transshipment capacity will amount to 800,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) within the first phase of its construction project,” the message said. “The Dutch APM Terminals company, which is the operator of the project, will start working this week. Thus, the first phase of the project will be officially launched.”

Currently, 10 large container ports operate in Turkey.

Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim and the Dutch APM Terminals inked an agreement for the construction of the Petlim port in March 2013.
