In Azerbaijan, the tourists have always shown more interest in the northern, southern and western regions, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev said on Tuesday.
He added that most tourists go on holiday along the Silk Road that is travelling on a route through Gabala-Sheki, Oguz. The minister said it is due to the climate and infrastructure in these areas.
Tourism opportunities in the northern region where new hotels have been constructed have expanded, Garayev said.
Completion of road construction leading to the northern region has provided more amenities for the passage of transport, so people are more interested in these places.
The minister also expressed his attitude towards tourism development in the lowland areas of the country. There is very beautiful scenery in low lying areas, on the coast of Kura, he said.
"Work in the frame of regional development programmes is being implemented there. Of course, it is impossible to force people to come there due to very hot summer in low lying areas. It is their choice, but it should be noted that there are special types of tourism, the most interesting of which is observed in spring and autumn," Garayev said.
