BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 28

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

About 34,600 farms in Georgia were exempted from payment for land reclamation services in 2020, Trend reports with reference to Georgia Land Reclamation LLC.

According to the information provided by the LLC, which provides land reclamation services throughout the country, the amount saved by farmers amounted to 3.84 million lari ($1.2 million).

This exemption for farms is involved in the anti-crisis plan of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia "Caring for the village, for the farmer" in order to help reduce the economic losses of farmers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout 2020, both individuals and legal entities who use these services on an area of up to 10 hectares of their agricultural land are exempted from fees for services for irrigation and drainage of land.

The LLC "Melioration of Georgia" noted that this year, within the framework of the anti-crisis plan, all farmers were also completely written off the debt on the line of payment for land improvement services accumulated in the period 2012 -2019. The total amount of this debt was about 8 million lari ($ 2.4 million).

The tariff of LLC “Melioration of Georgia” for irrigation of farmland is 75 lari ($22.9) per hectare for Eastern Georgia and 45 lari ($13.8) for each hectare for Western Georgia. The land drainage tariff is uniform and amounts to 40 lari ($12.2) per hectare.
