GDP per capita in Azerbaijan is close to $7500, totalling 5844.5 manat last year and growing by 0.8 per cent compared to 2011, head of Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee Arif Veliyev said at a press conference on the year's totals on Friday.

He said a 2.2 per cent increase in the country's GDP in 2012 was achieved through a 9.7 per cent growth in the non-oil sector, while the volume of total production in the oil and gas sector declined by five per cent.

"Decline in the oil production sector is not connected with the reduction of natural resources. Following the events at the BP platform in the Gulf of Mexico, the government of Azerbaijan recommended the company carefully considers security issues during work on the country's fields which was reflected in the production figures," Veliyev said.

He added that 50 per cent of GDP was produced in manufacturing, 5.2 per cent - agriculture, forestry and fishery, 9.2 per cent - the construction industry, 8.4 per cent - trade and paid services, 5.5 per cent - the transport sector, 1.7 per cent - communications sector and 6.2 per cent - net taxes on products and imports.
