BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12. Indirect talks between Iran and the US on Iran's nuclear program will continue next week, Iranian Foreign Ministry said, Trend reports.

It was noted that the talks, which took place today (April 12) in the Omani capital Muscat, were led by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. The mediator was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Oman Sayyid Badr Albusaid.

The talks on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against the country, which lasted 2.5 hours, were reportedly held in a constructive atmosphere and based on mutual respect.

It is also noted that the heads of the Iranian and US delegations, leaving the negotiating venue, held a short conversation with the participation of the Omani Foreign Minister.

To note, at the end of 2020, the Iranian parliament, citing the imposition of sanctions against Iran, decided to implement a strategic plan in the nuclear sphere with the aim of lifting sanctions. Iran has suspended the implementation of the additional steps and the additional protocol stipulated by the nuclear deal since February 23, according to a decision by the Iranian parliament. At the same time, the IAEA control mechanism has been reduced by 20-30 percent.

Official Tehran continues to declare that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful in nature and emphasizes that the country does not seek to create nuclear weapons.
