The number of people wounded in the earthquake in Iran has risen to 27 people, ISNA reported with reference to the Governor of Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

According to him, five people are in critical condition and sent to the hospital.

The governor denied reports of 40 deaths, which appeared earlier. He added that the lines of communications (water, telephone lines) suffered minimal damage.

Iran's deputy police chief General Ahmad-Reza Radan said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the non-residential area on the border with Pakistan, so the damage and casualties are less than it could be. According to him, the Iranian border guards are working in emergency mode, additional troops and helicopters sent to the area of the earthquake.

It is noted that this is one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit Iran over the past 40 years.

An earthquake measuring points at a depth of 18 kilometers in Saravan city, Sistan and Baluchestan province, IRIB news channel reported on Tuesday. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 18 kilometers.

The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring countries, in particular, the Indian capital of New Delhi.
