Editor of Azerbaijani ‘Nota-bene’ Newspaper Abandons Hunger Strike

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Arshad Hasanov, the head of Prison 14, has stated that Faramaz Novruzoglu, the editor of the Nota-bene newspaper, has abandoned his hunger strike. According to Hasanov, Novruzoglu requested that the sutures be removed from his mouth.

Faramaz Novruzoglu began a hunger strike on 20 July. The prisoner demanded permission to publish his articles and for his case to be reconsidered by the international human right activist. Novruzoglu was sentenced to 2? years prison due to lawsuit against him by Ramil Usubov, the Azerbaijani Interior Minister, and Nazim Ibrahimov, the State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad.
