Trend:

Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has expressed interest in renovating the country’s air fleet and buying aircraft.

“Purchasing planes is on the agenda of all airlines and renovation of the country’s air fleet will continue,” Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Ali Abdezadeh told ILNA.

The re-imposed US sanctions have hit Iran’s aircraft industry alongside other important sectors. ATR, a French-Italian manufacturer, delivered five new commercial aircraft to Iran in August before the start of sanctions. Boeing and its European rival Airbus have lost billions of dollars in aircraft deals with Iranian airlines due to sanctions.

“We cannot unveil our policies to bypass the sanctions, but considering our plans, we would evade the sanctions in a way that offers the best services to people,” Abdezadeh added.

Some Iranian aircraft were not allowed to refuel in Turkey’s Istanbul airport recently, while international companies operating at Beirut’s airport were also warned against fueling airlines that are affected by the US sanctions against Iran.
