Kazakhstan, Astana, 29 May / Trend corr K. Konirova/ On 29 May, the Board of Directors of Kazakhstan's Samruk holding engaged in state assets management selected Serik Burkitbayev to the presidential position in KazMunayGaz JSC. Burkitbayev replaced Uzakbay Karabalin who had been taking the position for five years.
Burkitbayev was born in Merke village in the Jambul region on 7 September 1957. He graduated with post-graduate degree from the Moscow Engineering & Physical Institute. In 1994-95, he was the President of Kazinformtelekom JSC and from 1996 to 1998 the President of Kazakhtelekom OJSC. In September, 1998, he was appointed Minister of Transport & Communications. In 2000, he was appointed part-time advisor of the Kazakh President and in June 2001 as presidential advisor. In February, 2008, Kazakh President appointed him chairman of the board of the National Scientific & Technical Holding Samgau.
