Iran's Ilam Province increases volume of guaranteed wheat purchases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. Compared to the same period last year, guaranteed wheat purchased from Ilam Province farmers in western Iran from March 25 through May 6 surged fourfold, director general of the branch of Iran's state trading company in Ilam province, Asghar Babakhani, said, Trend reports.

He claimed Ilam Province farmers sold 107,000 tons of guaranteed wheat throughout the mentioned period.

Babakhani stated that Iran's Keshavarzi Bank has received the procurement documents for the payment of 103,000 tons of purchased wheat to the farmers.

Agriculture covers 340,000 acres in Ilam, Iran. About 157,000 acres were seeded with wheat. Normal wheat sown area is 65,000 ha, and Dem lands are 92,000 ha. It is expected that 400,000 tons of wheat will be harvested in Ilam Province in the current year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025).

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased under the guarantee of the State Trading Company for 175,000-180,000 rials (about $4.17-$4.3).
