ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 8. Turkmenistan's Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant and the South Korean Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd. (KSIT) are preparing for the start of construction of new vessels, Trend reports.
The Balkan Shipyard reports that the parties have signed relevant contracts for the design and joint construction of two dry cargo ships with a capacity of 6,100 tons, with a start date of July this year.
In general, more than 300 workers will be involved in the construction of these two bulk carriers.
Recently, Korean specialists conducted two-month specialized training courses on construction planning, technology implementation, ship parts development, welding, electrical installation, and quality control.
Meanwhile, KSIT recently transferred project documentation to the Balkan shipyard and ship repair plant as part of a cooperation to increase the number of ships produced annually.
The transferred design documentation greatly expands the plant's capabilities, allowing it to build up to five ships per year instead of four previously, and establishes new Turkmen shipbuilding standards.
