Iran observes increase in garlic export volumes

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. Exports of garlic from Iran increased by 64 percent in value and 65 percent in weight in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), representative of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran Rouhollah Latifi wrote on the social network, Trend reports.

According to Latifi, Iran exported 49,800 tons of garlic worth $39.3 million last year.

Latifi added that the number of countries to whom Iran exported garlic rose from 18 to 32 last year. Thus, Russia, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and other neighboring countries are the main destinations of Iran's garlic exports.

Latifi noted that Iran exported 25,600 tons of fresh garlic worth $20.1 million and 24,200 tons of dried garlic worth $19.2 million last year.

Besides, according to the statistics of the Iranian Customs Administration, the country's exports of non-oil products in the last Iranian year amounted to more than 136 million tons worth $49.3 billion. Compared to the previous year, Iran's non-oil exports decreased by 8.87 percent in value terms and increased by 9.82 percent in weight terms.

To note, Iran's exports of food and agricultural products amounted to 8.8 million tons worth $6.3 billion in the last Iranian year. Compared to the previous year, food and agricultural exports increased by 20.4 percent in value and 12.2 percent in weight.
