Uzbekistan notes growth in cotton fiber production

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 8. Uzbekistan produced 227,200 tons of cotton fiber from January through March 2024, Trend reports.

According to data from Uzbekistan's Statistics Agency, this figure indicates a 5.1 percent growth compared to the same period last year (216,000 tons in January–March 2023).

At the same time, the country's cotton fiber production volume reached 90,400 tons in March 2024, which is 90,400 tons more than in the previous two months (136,800 tons in January–February 2024).

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan plans to increase its fiber processing capacity to 1.5 million tons due to new projects in the next 2 years.

The country also plans to reduce the cost of cotton cultivation and increase the yield. In total, Uzbekistan's fiber processing capacity is 1.3 million tons. However, the amount of fiber produced reaches 1 million tons.

Moreover, Basfiber Trade (one of Uzbekistan's enterprises) plans to create capacities for the production of 25,000 tons of basalt fiber and fabric next year. Uzbekistan has received equipment worth $145 million. Within the project's framework, the country plans to exceed the export volume by 90 percent.
