ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 21. Kazakhstan is working to modernize its main railway networks, said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev during a Government meeting, Trend reports.
The entire length of major roadways today is 16,000 kilometers. This year, extensive repairs on sections totaling 567 km were carried out to ensure uninterrupted transit and expand the capacity of vital railway lines. Construction on four railway projects is also underway.
"Last year, work on the Dostyk-Moyynty section's second tracks began. Work on construction and installation is presently underway. 70 percent of the roadbed construction work has been completed. "We anticipate that project implementation will increase the site's capacity by five times," the minister stated.
Also, last week, construction and installation work began on the railway line bypassing the Almaty station. By the end of the year, construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral section will begin, and the Bakhty-Ayagoz project is planned to be implemented at the expense of the investor.
As the minister noted, in the future, as part of the development of the main railway network, it is planned to modernize 144 stations and build about 5,000 km of second tracks, which will increase the capacity of the sections.
Moreover, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 213.8 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 2.1 tons higher than in the same period last year.
Over 138 million tons were transported by rail throughout the republic. Exports increased by 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.
During the reporting period, over 87.3 million tons of coal were loaded. Including within the republic - 61.2 million tons. Operating cargo turnover for 10 months of this year increased by 7.2 percent and amounted to 224.2 billion t-km.
