Four people have lost their lives when their plane went down in the US State of Georgia, PressTV reported.

The incident took place on Friday when a single-engine plane crashed on the bank of Lake Hartwell, bordering Georgia and South Carolina States.

Four men, including a father and son, a prominent high school football coach and a two-time champion sprint car racer were killed in the crash.

The victims were all from Warsaw, Indiana and were flying to Clemson, South Carolina, to watch a football game scheduled for Saturday, authorities said.

"The airplane, a 1984 single engine Piper Saratoga, departed Warsaw, Indiana at approximately midday and was scheduled to land at the Oconee County Airport," said Karl Addis, Oconee County Coroner.

"The individuals were traveling to Clemson to attend the Clemson - Notre Dame Football game," he added.

The crash was in a remote area of the lake and the search and recovery teams were forced to do most of their work by boat.
