Icelandic volcanic ash won't spread to Azerbaijan in coming days, said Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry National Hydrometeorological Department official Umayra Tagiyeva said.
She added that the southwest airflow over Turkey prevents volcanic ash from penetrating the country, so the probability of ash clouds in Azerbaijan is low over the next 3-4 days.
"This process depends on the duration of the volcanic eruption and the direction of air currents in the atmosphere. If the situation changes, people will be informed in advance," Tagiyeva said.
The Eyyafyatlayokudl volcano 200 kilometers east of Reykjavik began ton erupt April 14. This led to the formation of a large ash clouds, whose particles are dangerous for turbine engines and can cause problems for airplanes. As a result, the European Aviation Safety Service decided to close the airspace over many areas.
