Environmental work in Azerbaijan is a good contribution to the "green movement" across the globe, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov said.
The ministry has prepared an environmental action plan covering 2010-2014, which has already been submitted to the government, Bagirov said at a press conference today.
The plan will be implemented jointly with the industry and energy and agriculture ministries, and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
Forest areas have increased by 0.4 percent over the past two years, he said.
Bagirov added that special attention is paid to roadside landscaping, planting new trees and improving soil quality, as well as establishing irrigation systems.
