Tbilisi mulls new method of analysis of floods on Kura River

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 14 / Trend E.Ostapenko /

Tbilisi hosted two-day training workshop on use of the WetSpa model - a hydrological model used for flood analysis and watershed management of the EU-funded project for Transboundary River Management for the Kura River, the ENP news portal reported.

The objectives of the workshop were to present the hydrological modeling as a planning tool, and to train representatives of the Project Partners from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan in application of the model for selected pilot river basins (Agstafa basin, Aragvi basin, Ganjachai basin).

The workshop included a practical exercise designed to help trainees understand details of the WetSpa model and to provide training in using the model.

The €4 million project reinforces regional cooperation in monitoring and managing water resources in the Kura River basin, through training, capacity strengthening, streamlining data collection, information and know-how exchanges.
