An international exhibition focussing on the environment was opened in Azerbaijan on Thursday by the Chamber of Commerce with support from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
"Holding an exhibition in Azerbaijan during its Ecology Year testifies that our country has become a big investor in environmental technologies and an active consumer of these technologies," the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Huseyn Bagirov, told media at the opening of the exhibition.
He said that the environment has become a top industrial and economic priority in the country and expressed hope that the exhibition would be held each year.
The purpose of the exhibition is to inform the general public in Azerbaijan and foreign countries about activities undertaken to improve the environment and demonstrate modern green technologies.
About 30 foreign and local companies, state agencies and non-governmental organizations are taking part in the exhibition.
"Azerbaijan, for the Sake of a Green World" is being held in the Heydar Aliyev Sports-Concert Complex until Sept. 18.
