An Iranian general says the Army has been equipped with weapons capable of destroying fighter helicopters and armored fighting vehicles, Press TV reported.
"During Sacred Defense Week, new defense equipment was delivered to the Ground Forces... which will be used in armored cavalry and infantry units," the Fars news agency quoted Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari, a deputy commander of the Army, as saying on Monday.
Sacred Defense Week is held annually from September 22 to 28 to honor the memory of the Iranians martyred during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war and to commemorate the sacrifices made by Iranian soldiers and civilians during the war.
"The equipment is mostly deployable in anti-armor warfare and aerial offensives, including those [operations involving] helicopters," Brigadier General Heidari added.
He expressed satisfaction over the Army's acquisition of various types of modern military equipment and said the recent military upgrade has very effectively enhanced the defensive capabilities of the Ground Forces.
He also stated that all divisions of the country's Ground Forces will be equipped with the new military acquisitions.
