The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has commissioned a root DNS server in Baku, a source close to the project told Trend on Wednesday.
The root DNS server is a key part of the Internet infrastructure and the launch of a next root server will contribute to global security, improving sustainability and stability of the global domain name system, and a global network in the region.
Distributed DNS structure allows you to create protection from DDoS-attacks.
Today the DNS root system is distributed throughout the world. A number of system servers use a technology called Anycast. This allows one server to have multiple installations in different geographical locations. Anycast is used to reduce the response time and load balancing root DNS-servers.
DNS root servers contain information about top-level domains, pointing to DNS-servers that support each of these domains. The main DNS root servers are managed by different organizations working in coordination with ICANN.
