Azerbaijan, Baku, May 12/ Trend, K.Zarbaliyeva/
Deniz Baykal can again return to the post of chairman of the Republican People's Party of Turkey, leading fellow on Turkey of Strategic Studies Center of Azerbaijan Javid Veliyev told Trend on May 12.
"At this moment, many experts think that Baikal's resignation is the political tactics that his candidacy will be re-elected or he will be forced to stay. If Baikal will not be a candidate, the candidate and chairman of RPP will be a person approved by Baikal. Also a possibility is considered that after Baykal, RPP will get into hands of liberals in Turkey," said Veliyev.
Turkish opposition leader Deniz Baykal, who has led the RPP since 1992, has resigned.
Baykal's resignation was bitterly accepted by his supporters, said Veliyev, but his opponents assessed it positively.
"Many experts in Turkey think that Baykal is unable to become a worthy leader of the opposition, as he failed to keep pace with frequently changing policies of Turkey. According to experts, the government was satisfied with Baykal's leadership to the opposition, because he was not a very strong opposition leader. According to some experts, in RPP there were certain forces willing to come to the leadership of the party, and therefore wanted Baykal's resignation," said Veliyev.
"According to those supporting government policies, Baykal is the biggest obstacle in the way of changing policies of Turkey. After Baykal's resignation, two questions are discussed in Turkey: the first one is whether Baykal's step is political tactics. That is, whether he would re-nominate for the chairmanship. Today, after his resignation, for the first time a positive opinion formed about Baykal in Turkey, who assesses everything from the point of view of the opposition. It is noted that Baykal's purpose was exactly this: to force government to defend itself, to create a positive view about himself. So far, he has achieved this. The second one is who will lead the RPP after Baykal. Two candidates were named for this post - Baykal's assistant Kemal Kilidjaroglu for great achievements in protecting the rights of the population, receiving the nickname "Gandi". Despite that Kilidjaroglu differs from Baykal in addressing the issues of party, it needs to note that he will not be a candidate. The second candidate is the chairman of RPP in Istanbul Gursel Tekin, taking an active part in municipal elections since 2009 and differing from other modern political thoughts," said Veliyev.
