Iran investor signs deal to build meat-packing plant in Kazakhstan

An Iranian investor concluded an investment contract for the implementation of a project on construction of a meat-packing plant, followed by deep processing using the "Halal" standard in East-Kazakhstan region in the territory of the Industrial Zone "Ondiris".

General Director of AgroPortal Amir Shekarchi, with the support of KazakhInvest, has concluded the contract stipulating investment making and investment preferences with the Investment Committee of the Investment and Development Ministry of Kazakhstan.

The volume of the investment is expected at the level of 7 billion tenge.

Construction of the meat processing plant in the East Kazakhstan region will begin this year. Up to 2,000 heads of small cattle and 400 heads of cattle will be processed per day.

This production is mainly export-oriented - up to 90 percent of the products will be sent to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Furthermore, upon the invitation of the Iranian investor, the delegation of the East Kazakhstan region will visit Iran. During the visit scheduled for the second decade of January 2018 it is planned to familiarize with the activities of dairy farms, held meetings with producers of agricultural equipment, partners interested in importing Kazakh meat products, as well as potential investors to be offered a number of promising projects in the field of agro-industrial complex.

The agro-industrial complex is defined as one of the priority sectors in the National Investment Strategy for 2018-2022 for attracting direct foreign investment. Gross inflow of direct investments into Kazakhstan in agriculture from 2019 up to 9 months of 2017 amounted to $135.2 million.

Kazakhstan’s exports to Iran amounted to $892.503 million in 2014, $565.791 million in 2015 and $550.518 million in 2016. In the first half of 2017, the export amounted to $239.756 million.
