Turkey to support Uzbek textile industry, may lower excise tax

Uzbekistan and Turkey will create TEXTILKENT wholesale and semi-wholesale textile trade center, the press service of the Uztekstilprom association stated on May 4.

Within the framework of the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Uzbekistan, a joint Uzbek-Turkish business forum with participation of Uzbek and Turkish companies was held in Uzexpocenter on April 30, 2018.

During the forum, the participants were informed about the achievements of Uzbekistan in the textile industry in recent years, as well as about the current state and prospects for development of international cooperation in production and export of textile goods.

The Uzbek side provided detailed information on the textile industry of the country. Favorable conditions have been created by the government of Uzbekistan for foreign investors. Major projects involving foreign investments have been successfully implemented. The country has introduced numerous benefits and preferences for textile enterprises.

Turkish companies especially noted the economic achievements of Uzbekistan and possibility for attracting large Turkish companies to implement joint investment projects on production of finished textile, hosiery, sewing and knitwear products, as well as curtains and accessories.

During the meeting with the head of Demez Oglu company, the manufacturer and supplier of famous brands such as Moschino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Aeronautica, establishment of TEXTILKENT center for wholesale and semi-wholesale trade of textile, sewing and knitting products in Uzbekistan was discussed. Preliminary agreements on implementation of the project have been achieved as a result of the negotiations.

Within the framework of the forum, Uzbek side held a meeting with President of the Council for Foreign Economic Relations of Turkey "DEIK" Nail Olpak and discussed lowering the excise tax on import of Uzbek textile products.

Negotiations also underscored the increasing trade turnover and of variety of goods traded.

Turkey is one of the most important trade partners of Uzbekistan. In 2017, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 30 percent and amounted to $1.5 billion.
